Lookup: Night Sky & Stars — Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 1, 2026

This Privacy Policy applies to Lookup: Night Sky & Stars, an Android app published by Digital Rhyme. Lookup is an offline-first star map that lets you identify stars, constellations, planets, and the ISS by pointing your phone at the sky.

Summary

Lookup does not require an account, does not include ads, does not use analytics, and does not send your personal data to a server. All star catalogs, constellation data, and educational content are bundled in the app and work without an internet connection.

Location Data

Lookup requests your approximate location (coarse accuracy, ±1–3 km) to compute which stars and planets are visible from where you are. Location is processed entirely on your device. Lookup does not transmit your location to Digital Rhyme or to any server.

You can deny this permission. The app will fall back to a default location and continue to work normally.

Camera

Lookup offers an optional live camera overlay so you can see the real sky behind the star map. Camera frames are rendered directly to the screen using Android's CameraX Preview API. Frames are never captured, saved, analyzed, or transmitted. Lookup does not store any images or video from your camera.

You can deny this permission. The app will continue to work in standard mode without the camera overlay.

Internet Access — ISS Satellite Tracking

Lookup makes one network request per day to fetch the International Space Station's current orbital parameters (a Two-Line Element set) from CelesTrak, a long-running, non-commercial public service. This request is a plain HTTP GET with no user data attached. CelesTrak receives no information about you or your device. The response is cached locally for up to 24 hours.

If you are offline, the app uses the cached data or simply omits the ISS from the display. No other network connections are made.

Data We Do Not Collect

Data Sharing

Lookup does not sell, share, or transfer your data to third parties. The only external contact is the once-daily ISS orbit fetch described above, which carries no user data.

Children

Lookup is not directed to children in a specific way, but it is suitable for all ages. The app collects no personal information from any user.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date and noted in the Play Store release notes.
